Soulmate Swamp Milkweed

Asclepias incarnata ‘Soulmate’ (Swamp Milkweed) has cheery bright pink flowers and upright stems with long green leaves. It stands at 3-4′ tall and is a worthy addition to a sunny border or meadow garden, where this easy-care perennial can provide sweetly scented flowers from mid-to-late summer. Swamp milkweed likes moisture and will tolerate clay soil as well. With a broad native range, Asclepias is a very important plant for the monarch butterfly – it is the host plant essential for the survival of monarch caterpillars, and an important nectar source for mature monarch butterflies. Consider planting several species such as Asclepias tuberosa, A. syriaca, and A. purpurascens to provide plenty of variety for monarchs and non-stop garden color from June to September.
